Bonuses

There are no statutory bonus schemes in Antigua & Barbuda. However, it is customary for government employees to receive a Christmas bonus.

Employment contracts in Antigua & Barbuda can be permanent or fixed-term.

Employers must create a contract letter within ten days of employee engagement, which includes:

• Job title and responsibilities
• Salary
• Contracted working hours
• Annual holiday
• Probation details (if applicable)
• Employment end date (if fixed-term)

Annual Leave

12 days' paid holiday per year.

Sick Leave

Employees are entitled to paid sick leave from the third day of absence up to 26 weeks (or 39 weeks with a medical certificate).

Parental Leave

• Maternity leave: 6-13 weeks' paid leave, plus a maternity grant.
• Paternity leave: none.

Termination Process

Employers need fair grounds for dismissal. These include:

• Misconduct
• Not performing at the expected standard
• Redundancy

The employer must give notice of termination (usually equivalent the time between the employee's paydays).

Severance Pay

Severance pay in Antigua & Barbuda depends on the employee's length of service. Employees are entitled to one day's severance pay per month of service after one year.
