Working Hours

Employees can work up to 8.5 hours a day or 48 hours per week.

Minimum Wage

Bonuses

Employers must pay each employee a vacation allowance of 50% of the employee's standard monthly wage.

The law in Suriname distinguishes between employment agreements, agreements requiring a party to undertake specific services, and agreements for the contract of services.

Oral and written contracts are permitted, but written contracts are preferred.

Annual Leave

Minimum of 12 days' paid holiday after one year of service. Two days are awarded for each additional year of service.

Sick Leave

Employees in Suriname are entitled to up to six weeks’ sick leave per year after four months of service.

Parental Leave

• Maternity leave: at least 16 weeks' paid leave.
• Paternity leave: at least eight days' paid leave.

Termination Process

Employers and employees in Suriname can terminate a contract provided they give notice in line with legal requirements. This is up to six months for employers and three months for employees.

Severance Pay

Employees are entitled to 1-6 months' severance pay, depending on their length of service.
