Employees can work up to 45 hours per week.

Minimum Wage

There is no statutory minimum wage in Namibia. Wages are usually negotiated in collective bargaining agreements.

Bonuses

There are no statutory bonus schemes in Namibia.

Employment contracts in Namibia should be written and agreed to by both parties.

Fixed-term contracts are permitted for up to three years.

Annual Leave

4-24 days per year, depending on the number of days the employee works per week.

Sick Leave

Up to 12 days' paid sick leave for the first year of employment. Sick leave is then calculated over a period of 36 months. A medical certificate must be provided after two consecutive days’ absence.

Parental Leave

• Maternity leave: at least 12 weeks' paid leave, after six months of service.
• Paternity leave: none.

Termination Process

Employers in Namibia can terminate a contract, provided they have fair grounds for termination and they have followed a fair internal dismissal procedure. This includes holding a disciplinary hearing in the presence of an unbiased official.

Employers must inform the Labour Commissioner at least 4 weeks before intended dismissals due to reorganisation, transfer, staff reduction, or business closure.

Severance Pay

Employees are entitled to one week’s remuneration for each year of service.
