Working Hours

Employees can work up to eight hours a day, or 48 hours per week.

Minimum Wage

As of 1st July 2024, the monthly minimum wage in Vietnam depends by region and is as follows:

• Region 1: VND 4,960,000 per month.
• Region 2: VND 4,410,000 per month.
• Region 3: VND 3,860,000 per month.
• Region 4: VND 3,450,000 per month.

Bonuses

There are no statutory bonus schemes in Vietnam, but a 13th month salary is customary.

Employment contracts in Vietnam should be written in Vietnamese, unless they are for temporary work of less than three months. All contracts should include:

• Job title and responsibilities
• Workplace
• Working hours
• Salary
• Contract length (if applicable)
• Personal protective equipment provision
• Social and health insurance provision
• Training and skills provision

Fixed-term contracts are permitted in Vietnam for up to 36 months.

Annual Leave

Minimum of 12 days' paid holiday per year after 12 months of service.

Sick Leave

Up to 12 months’ consecutive leave, depending on the employee’s contract term. Employers are not obligated to pay the employee during this time, though the employee may be able to claim from the Social Insurance Fund.

Parental Leave

• Maternity leave: at least six months' paid leave, provided the employee has at least six months of service.
• Paternity leave: 5-14 days' paid leave.

Termination Process

Employers in Vietnam can dismiss employees on several grounds, including:

• Repeated failure to perform the contracted work
• Serious misconduct
• Repeated offences
• Taking 20 days off in one year without proper authorisation
• Lengthy illness

Employees can also end a contract by giving at least 45 days' notice.

Severance Pay

The amount of severance pay in Vietnam depends on the reason for termination.

Redundancy pay is equal to one month’s salary for each year of employment. Termination for other reasons (excluding misconduct and repeated absences) entitles the employee to half a month’s salary for each year of service.
