Employment contracts in Croatia must be written. They should include:
- Employer and employee addresses
- Job title and responsibilities
- Working hours
- Salary
- Contract length and work start date
- Notice period
Fixed-term contracts are only permitted for replacing temporarily absent employees, temporary projects, and seasonal work.
The maximum time limit for fixed-term contracts is three (3) years. Additionally, the maximum number of consecutive agreements is three, with a total duration of three years. However, an exception can be made if the need for a fixed-term contract is due to some other objective reasons allowed by a special law or a collective agreement.
After six (6) months of working under a fixed-term contract, an employee is entitled to request an indefinite term contract, and the employer should consider it. If the request is rejected, the employer must explain why in writing.
A fixed-term employment contract can be terminated by either party, provided notice is issued.
