Working Hours

Employees can work up to nine hours a day, or 40 hours per week.

Minimum Wage

There is no statutory minimum wage in Norway. Wages are usually negotiated in a collective bargaining agreement.

Bonuses

There are no statutory bonus schemes in Norway, but bonus schemes may be established in collective bargaining agreements.

For employment relationships with a duration of more than one month, in the Netherlands, a written contract must be entered into as soon as possible and, in any event, no later than seven days after starting employment. For employment relationships shorter than one month, a written contract of employment must be issued immediately.

All contracts should include as a minimum:

• Employer and employee ID details.
• Workplace.
• Job title and responsibilities.
• Start date.
• Contract length (if applicable).
• Probation period.
• Salary and pension contributions, allowances, etc.
• Method and frequency of payment.
• Leave entitlement.
• Working hours, and break durations.
• Any collective agreement details.

Annual Leave

Minimum of 25 days' paid holiday per year.

Sick Leave

Up to 52 weeks’ fully paid sick leave. Employers must pay the employee for the first 16 days of sickness absence. A medical certificate must be provided after three days.

From the 17th day, sick pay can be claimed from National Insurance.

Parental Leave

• Maternity leave: ten weeks' paid leave.
• Paternity leave: ten weeks' paid leave.
• Parental leave: up to 29 weeks' leave shared between the parents. Parental leave is paid from National Insurance to those earning less than NOK 480,000.

Termination Process

Employees in Norway have strong protection against dismissal. Employers can terminate a contract, provided they give written notice in line with legal requirements, and they have strong grounds for dismissal.

Grounds for termination include:

• Redundancy
• Persistent poor performance
• Criminal offences against the employer

Employees can also end a contract, by giving notice in line with legal requirements.

Severance Pay

There is no statutory severance pay requirement in Norway.
