Bonuses

There are no statutory bonus schemes in Burkina Faso.

Employment contracts can be written or oral, but contracts written in French are best.

All contracts should include:

Fixed-term contracts are permitted up to 24 months (local workers) or 36 months (foreign workers).

Annual Leave

Minimum of 22 days' paid holiday per year after a year of service.

Sick Leave

Paid sick leave entitlement ranges from 2 - 8 months, depending on length of service.

Parental Leave

• Maternity leave: 14 weeks' paid leave.
• Paternity leave: 3 days' paid leave.

Termination Process

Employers in Burkina Faso can terminate a contract provided they give notice in line with legal requirements.

Contracts may be terminated for the following reasons:

• Reasonable and socially acceptable grounds
• Economic reasons
• Serious misconduct
• Expiry of a fixed-term contract.

Severance Pay

Employees are entitled to 25% of their monthly wage per year of service up to five years, rising to 30% between 5-10 years and 40% after the tenth year of service.
