Working Hours

Employees can work up to 10 hours per day (including overtime). The weekly total cannot exceed 48 hours.

Minimum Wage

The monthly minimum wage varies by sector:

• TND 403 for agricultural and industrial workers
• TND 378.56 for other workers

Bonuses

There are no statutory bonus schemes in Tunisia.

Employment contracts in Tunisia may be oral or written, though contracts written in Arabic are preferred. They should include:

• Salary in Tunisian dinars (TND)
• Benefits
• Termination requirements

Both indefinite and fixed-term contracts are permitted.

Annual Leave

Employees accumulate one day of paid leave for each month worked.

Sick Leave

Only insured employees can receive paid sick leave. They receive 66.7% of their daily average earnings for up to 180 days in the first year. Sick leave in subsequent years is paid at the lower rate of 50%.

Parental Leave

• Maternity leave: at least 30 days' leave paid at two-thirds of the employee's wage.
• Paternity leave: one day of paid leave.

Termination Process

Employers in Tunisia must have a just cause for dismissal.

Employees can also end a contract by giving at least one month's notice.

Severance Pay

Employees who have not been terminated for misconduct are entitled to one day’s pay for each month of employment. The maximum amount of severance pay is three months’ wages.
