Working Hours

Employees can work up to eight hours a day, or 48 hours per week. Any work over 40 hours per week is classed as overtime.

Minimum Wage

JOD 268 per month for Jordanian nationals and JOD 260 per month for non-Jordanian nationals.

Bonuses

There are no statutory bonus schemes in Jordan.

Employment contracts in Jordan must be written in Arabic and issued in duplicate. Both indefinite and fixed-term contracts are permitted.

Annual Leave

Minimum of 14 days’ paid holiday per year, rising to 21 days after five years of service.

Sick Leave

Each employee is entitled to 14 days of paid sick leave per year. A medical certificate must be provided.

Parental Leave

• Maternity leave: at least ten weeks' fully paid leave, plus one year of unpaid leave if working for a company with 10+ employees.
• Paternity leave: three days' paid leave.

Termination Process

Both employers and employees in Jordan can terminate a contract, provided they give at least one month's notice.

Some offences can lead to immediate dismissal. These include:

• Fraud
• Breach of contract
• Safety code violations
• Certain types of misconduct

Employers must notify the Minister of Labour in writing in instances of redundancy.

Severance Pay

Employees are entitled to one month’s wage for each year of service.
