Working Hours

Employees can work 8 hours a day, up to 40 hours a week if they're over 18. Under 18s are limited to working six hours a day.

Minimum Wage

Bonuses

There are no statutory bonus schemes in Albania.

Albanian employment contracts can be oral or written. But they need to include clear and specific information, including:

• Employment duration
• Wage
• Contracted working hours
• Benefits
• Annual holiday
• Rights and liabilities of both parties.

To avoid any confusion, it's best to create a robust written contract.

Annual Leave

22 working days' paid holiday per year.

Sick Leave

Employers must pay 80% of the employee's salary for the first 14 days of sick leave. After 14 days, social insurance will pay 70% of their average salary.

Parental Leave

• Maternity leave: up to a year of paid maternity leave if employed for at least 12 months.
• Paternity leave: no statutory leave, but fathers can apply for up to 17 weeks' paid leave.
• Parental leave: 12 days of paid leave to care for a child each year.

Termination Process

Employers need to give employees notice of  termination, then arrange a meeting within 72 hours to discuss the reasons. They must allow employees to present counterarguments.

Employees who want to leave employment must give notice in line with their contract terms.

Severance Pay

Companies in Albania must pay 15 days' severance to employees with more than three years of service.
