Regular employees can work 8 hours a day, up to 45 hours a week.

Bonuses

There are no statutory bonus schemes in Aruba.

Employment contracts in Aruba can be oral or written. But they need to include certain information, including:

• Names of both parties
• Employment start date
• Employment end date (if fixed-term)
• Job title and responsibilities
• Salary
• Contracted working hours
• Annual holiday
• Probation period

Annual Leave

Each employer is entitled to paid holiday leave equal to at least three times their contracted weekly working days.

Sick Leave

Six weeks' paid sick leave. After 6 weeks, employers can pay 80% of the salary if the employee is covered by Social Security Bank health insurance.

Parental Leave

• Maternity leave: 12 weeks' leave at full pay.
• Paternity leave: 2 days' paid leave.

Termination Process

Employers can terminate a contract by giving notice, provided they get prior approval from the Director of the Department of Labor and Research.

Otherwise, grounds for termination include:

• Mutual consent
• Court approval
• Immediate termination with an urgent, valid reason

  Severance Pay

  Severance pay in Aruba is one week's pay per year of service up to 10 years, rising to 2 weeks per year over 20 years.
