Employees typically work 40 hours a week over 5 days.

Minimum Wage

BMD 16.40 per hour.

Bonuses

There are no statutory bonus schemes in Bermuda.

Employment contracts in Bermuda must be in writing, and should include:

• Names of both parties
• Work location
• Job title and responsibilities
• Salary
• Annual leave
• Working hours
• Pension provision

The contract should be given to an employee within a week of starting work.

Annual Leave

Minimum of two weeks' annual leave.

Sick Leave

Eight days' paid sick leave per year after one year of service. A medical certificate must be provided after two days.

Parental Leave

• Maternity leave: 13 weeks' paid leave after one year of service, otherwise leave is unpaid.
• Paternity leave: 5 days' paid leave after one year of service.

Termination Process

Employers in Bermuda can only dismiss staff without notice within their probation period or for serious misconduct. In all other scenarios, they must give notice or pay compensation in line with legal requirements.

Employees can also give notice of termination in line with their contract terms.

Severance Pay

Severance pay is two weeks’ per year of service up to ten years, then 3 weeks for each additional year. The maximum severance pay is 26 weeks.
