Working Hours

Employees can work for 10 hours a day, up to a maximum of 40 hours per week.

Minimum Wage

Bonuses

There are no statutory bonus schemes in Curacao.

Employment contracts in Curacao can be written or oral. There are no restrictions on the form of the contract, though some clauses must be provided in written form.

Both indefinite and fixed-term contracts are permitted.

Annual Leave

Minimum of 15 days' paid holiday for employees who work six days a week.

Sick Leave

Up to three days' fully paid sick leave per year.

From the fourth day up to one year, sick leave is funded by social security at 80% of the employee's salary.

Parental Leave

• Maternity leave: at least 14 weeks' fully paid leave.
• Paternity leave: none.

Termination Process

There are four ways to terminate a contract in Curacao:

• Giving notice (either party can give notice)
• Mutual consent
• Court dissolution of the employment agreement
• Immediate dismissal with just cause

Compensation may be required in some cases.

Severance Pay

Severance pay is known as cessantia.

Employees are entitled to one week’s cessantia per year of service up to 11 years. This rises to 1.25 weeks from 11 years and two weeks from 20 years, up to a maximum of 6 months in total.
