Working Hours

Employees' working hours depend on the sector of employment. They can vary from 40 hours a week to 60 hours a week. Employees are not permitted to work more than 6 days per week, and if an employee needs to work on Sunday, compensation is double the standard pay.

Overtime hours are compensated at 1 and half times over the standard work rate.

Bonuses

There is no evidence of statutory bonus schemes in Grenada.

Employment contracts in Grenada are normally in writing, but oral agreements are acceptable in specific cases.

There are three types of employment contracts in Grenada:

Annual Leave

Leave entitlement depends on the length of the employee's service. In the first 12 months, an employee is entitled to two weeks' leave and three weeks after the first 12 months. Employees working daily or hourly are entitled to one day's leave every 15 days.

Sick Leave

Up to three days' fully paid sick leave after the first year of employment, on presentation of a medical certificate from a medical professional.

From the fourth day, sick leave is funded by the National Insurance Scheme (NIS). An employer is not required to pay an employee for more than five sick days without a medical certificate.

Parental Leave

• Maternity leave: three months' paid leave that can be scheduled before or after delivery. Employees provide an employer with a written notice, three weeks before taking the maternity leave. Maternity leave is calculated according to the type of employment.
• Paternity leave: none

Termination Process

Employers and employees in Grenada can terminate a contract, provided they give notice in line with the length of an employee's employment.

Other grounds for termination include:

• Contract expiry
• Misconduct
• Breach of contract
• Incompetence

Severance Pay

Severance pay depends on the employee's length of service and annual leave days.
